Curve Lake Ice Fishing and February Thaw

Driving past Curve Lake this week I saw the ice fishing huts and thought that with all the warm weather and thaw we’ve been having they probably won’t be up for much longer. I strolled out onto the ice, which was a bit nerve wracking for me, but since two big guys on an ATV had just zipped past I figured I was safe.

Yup. It’s an unusual feeling standing on a frozen lake.

Earlier in the week we had a fresh snow followed by a warm thaw. Continue reading

The Corner of Hunter and George

I haven’t done too many panoramic cityscapes. I thought I’d go out in the fog last night and have a try at a street corner. The fog was pretty much lifted by the time I got to this set of images, but you can see the water collected on the lens.

The parallax issue becomes extra challenging, but also extra fun in the result. I like the way I have to break and bend the buildings in a kind of Dr. Seussian way to get everything to match up.

Rainbow, R(Ice) Lake and Miller Creek in White

image of rainbow in winterThe weather has been very mild for January. Not only was I standing on my back porch in bare feet earlier this week, but I drove through a short, light rain and came out to find this rainbow. It only lasted for seconds, but it may be the first January rainbow I’ve ever seen.

Ten minutes earlier I was at Rice Lake, which looked like this: Continue reading
